COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SOCKET, STRAIGHT SHANK (TURRENT TOOL HOLDER)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to A-A-51132, type I.
Abstract. This description covers a socket which converts a tool with a tapered shank to a straight shank use with chucks and turning machine turret tool sockets. The sockets shall be similar to figure 1.

Salient characteristics:
1. Materials. Materials used in the manufacture of the sockets shall be a quality necessary to produce a product that conforms to the requirements herein.
2. Design. The sockets shall have a drift slot. The dimensions of the internal taper and diameter at gage line shall conform to American National Standard Self Holding Machine Tapers as described in ANSI B5.10.
