3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 General requirements. The tool holder shall be new and one of the manufacturer's current models capable of operation in accordance with the requirements herein. Unless otherwise
specified (see 7.3(d)), the tool holder and threading tool shall be capable of cutting a right-hand, 60- degree UN, class 2A thread in accordance with ASME B1.1, "Unified Inch Screw Threads (UN and UNR Thread Form)". The tool holder shall have a tool-holding head rotated clockwise 34 degrees from the shank with a horizontal tapped boss fitted with an adjusting screw to control tool edge height. Type II tool holders shall be a gooseneck-form head to provide resilient tool mounting.
3.2 Materials. The tool holder shall be made of drop-forged alloy steel heat-treated to a Rockwell C 40-48 hardness or alloy steel surface hardened to a Rockwell C 50-58 hardness when tested in accordance with ASTM E18, "Standard Test Method for Rockwell Hardness and Rockwell Superficial Hardness of Metallic Materials".
3.3 Clamping device. A clamping device shall firmly support the threading tool on the tool- holding head.
3.4 Threading tool. A threading tool shall be furnished. The threading tool shall be a single- point radial form of high-speed tool steel hardened to a Rockwell C 63-67 hardness and shall be ground to an included angle of 60 degrees on the periphery. The threading tool shall be capable of being resharpened by grinding the top edge only.
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS
5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, conform to the producer's own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
