COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADAPTER, DRILL CHUCK, MOTOR SHAFT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GGG-C-350b.
This description covers motor shaft adapters with a straight hole suitable for mounting a drill chuck onto a motor shaft. One adapter end will have a straight shaft, the opposite adapter end is tapered to conform to the tapered mount hole of the chuck for which it is procured.
Salient characteristics.
Size. The size of adapters covered by this description shall be as listed below. The size adapter to be furnished under a specific procurement shall be as specified in the contract order.
Size 1 - 1/2 inch hole diameter - 2 Jacobs taper
Size 2 - 1/2 inch hole diameter - 3 Jacobs taper
Size 3 - 1/2 inch hole diameter - 6 Jacobs taper
Size 4 - 1/2 inch hole diameter - 33 Jacobs taper
Material. All adapters shall be made from a high grade steel and shall be soft throughout.
Set screw. The adapter shall contain a headless set screw to secure the adapter upon the motor shaft.
Markings. Each adapter shall be permanently marked with the manufacturer’s name, model number, shaft hole diameter, and taper number.
Finish. Surfaces shall be smoothly ground, free from wheel and chatter marks, or other imperfections which may affect their accuracy, appearance, or serviceability.
Concentricity. Each adapter shall be ground concentric within 0.001 inch total indicator reading.
